Kenner Blythe

The original Blythe doll was created by designer Allison Katzman in 1972 and sold by the toy company Kenner.

She came in four different hair colours: Brunette, Auburn, Blonde and Redhead and had eyes which changed to Blue, Green, Pink and Orange.  Sets of 12 different outfits were produced in the psychedelic fashions of the time.  She also had wigs, glasses and a case for storing everything in!

Photos & Info:  Miss Blythe

When Kenner originally released Blythe she was just $5.96!  Nowadays you can expect to pay anything from $500 – $3000 depending on your luck and the condition of the doll.  Although some are lucky enough to still find these rare treasures in Thrift stores for minimal amounts!

Kenner stopped producing Blythe the same year because its said children found their oversized heads and changing eyes a bit scary.  And while some doll collectors kept them stored away safely, most of them were badly treated like most children’s toys and many are found with hair pulled out, bodies cracked, heads broken off, dirty and basically a MESS.  But Blythe fans around the world are on a rescue mission to restore them to their former beauty.  Many restore them to look just like the original, and others give them a modern twist makeover.

Here is an example of how Kenner’s are rescued, repaired and restored.

Who was lovingly restored by Nicole.

Search on Ebay for a Kenner or find a restored one on Blythe Kingdom.  Good luck!

Yes a lot of people will change scalps particularly old Kenners which often have terrible hair. But this should have been clearly stated in the eBay listing that u were gettin a descalped doll.

What is the difference between 7 lines of copyright on their back as opposed to 6 lines?
